Retractable shelter appliances such as awnings can be damaged by high winds. InnoCentive posed the following challenge:

“Would it be possible to develop an inexpensive way to sense wind or awning motion so that a person can be alerted or a retraction mechanism triggered before any property is damaged?”


AIworx won this InnoCentive challenge by presenting a compact vibration sensor that harvests energy from the very physical phenomenon it is designed to measure — mechanical vibrations. The device is equipped with wireless communications so as to send alerts when conditions approach a damage threshold level.


An affordable and practical solution that helps reduce repair costs due to damage sustained by sensitive assets that are installed outdoors.
